History

Background

BAAR was founded in 1993 by Antonio H. Miguel, Paulo Artaxo and Maria de Fatima Andrade. Together with other aerosol scientists, they recognized the importance of aerosols in a number of areas including aerosol chemistry, aerosol physics, air pollution, atmospheric chemistry, atmospheric sciences, indoor and microenviroment air pollution, slash and biomass burning, and nano materials. The first BAAR Meeting gathered a group of some 50 professionals practicing in these and other areas. BAAR is poised to be an international organization. Members shall include professionals and students from academia, government, and industry throughout the Americas and, especially, from countries of Latin expression.
