The World of Nanotechnology

Nanoparticles contract with biological systems in predictable ways, say North Carolina State University researchers. The morphology and surface characteristics control which amino acids and proteins will bind to particles. At the same time, the bonding changes those same surface properties and even the shape of the particles in ways that affect how they will interact with tissue, where they will locate, etc. The work has profound implications for the ongoing dialogue about the health and safety of nanotechnology and how the industry should be regulated.
